Our school has contacted various communities while achieving and maintaining our Active Flag.

Our Active Committee consists of 13 pupils, from 1st class upwards (see photo). The active committee meets and discuss our progress, makes future plans, conducts spot checks etc. You will recognise our committee as they wear an active school badge. Our active committee ensures playground buddies are in operation that our PE press is as it should be, etc. They also update the active school board and check the suggestion box. In October our Active Committee conducted a survey to see what clubs we are part of. There were over 30 clubs in all.

Pupils who take part in physical activity and their achievements are recognised in our school. Teams often speak in assembly about their achievements; pupils visit classrooms showing their silverware and speak about their achievements. Notes from our local GAA clubs , Slaney Valley community etc are often sent out via the school. Local sports coaches have visited the school- last year Dom Ryan visited and we did some boxing. Catherine also came and did ten yoga sessions with each class. GAA coaches took various classes throughout the year for football.

The Boys and girls are very busy playing camogie and hurling matches for Kildavin / Clonegal. We are very lucky to have GAA coaches coming in from the local GAA club! We cannot wait to start! We are hoping to have our annual GAA day with Kildavin again this year!

Kildavin Clonegal Juvenile GAA club have started their training! Many boys and girls have signed up already and it's not too late to do so! Great friendships are made in the club and we always hear what fun it is! Our school yard is full of Kildavin Clonegal GAA hats! It is great to see the parish colours flying around the yard!

February 2018
Our committee surveyed both parents and pupils and the results were very interesting! The pupils responded very positively to Active School as did the parents. It was the parent’s results, however, that were very successful. Ideas, such as treasure hunts, keeping up operation transformation, giving more active homework, introducing more activities, were very positive. There are some things which, unfortunately, are beyond our control, such as draining the pitch, doing more than an hour of PE a week and getting a PE teacher for the school. The committee met and discussed the results! Sarah Kirwan dropped in with Ellie Kirwan from First class to tell us about the Kildavin / Clonegal camogie registration night! We always promote extracurricular activities - Look at Alexandra and Eddie Teddy at the Park Run in Tullow. This is a free timed 5k every Saturday morning in Rathwood!

Our Active Committee works hard and wear our badges with pride. We display sporting achievements from outside of school on our WOW wall. And post all updates on our active school board outside of Mrs. Austin’s room. It was great to hear that so many pupils went to the Slaney Valley open evening. Kildavin Clonegal GAA registration day took place at the end of January. So many pupils have registered for Kildavin/ Clonegal camogie, football and hurling. Lovely hatswere given as part of the membership! It’s great to see the GAA colours in school! Our Active Committee has being working extremely hard conducting surveys this month. We will post our findings here.
