Christmas

Christmas is a very busy time in our school. Classrooms are decorated and the school crib is erected in the front hall. The sound of carol singing can be heard from every classroom. Pupils are busy making their "Bóthar Calendars" which help to raise funds to purchase goats for Bóthar. Wearing santa hats, we all enjoy our Annual Christmas Walk to Huntington Castle. Santa and the Bóthar goats pay us a visit on the day of the holidays and it is a really festive occasion. Each year we also have a very special Christmas celebration – either a concert in St. Brigid’s Hall or a Carol Service in St. Brigid’s Church. We alternate these two events and both are always very well supported by parents and the local community. The children look forward to the excitement they bring.

22 December: Santa's visit
On the morning of the Christmas holidays we welcomed a very important man to our school – Santa. There was huge excitement as we all crowded around the gate, singing Christmas songs and waiting for his arrival. When we heard the bell and his loud “Ho! Ho! Ho!” we knew he was on the way! Every pupil got to meet him and receive a selection box from him. This year, we also received personal letters from him. It’s amazing how much he knows about each of us! We are very grateful to the Parents Council members who decorate his grotto and help him when he visits our school.

21 December: Christmas Mass and Annual Walk
Fr. O’ Byrne and Fr. Fleming said our annual Christmas Mass. We sang lots of Christmas Carols and pupils from different classes did the Readings, said the Prayers of the Faithful and took part in the Offertory Procession. Ms Grant played the organ. It was a very special celebration and reminded us all of the real meaning of Christmas. After 11 o’clock break, we put on our Christmas hats and set off on our annual Christmas walk to Hungtington Castle. We had great fun on the walk and when we arrived at the Castle we were welcomed by Alex and Claire. They then took us on a magical tour of the Castle where we really enjoyed looking at the huge Christmas Tree and its amazing decorations. We also admired the wonderful winter scene and the miniature model railway. The vintage Italian Nativity Scene was amazing and we really enjoyed looking at it. Then we all ran out on the lawn and had wonderful fun in the winter sunshine. We are very grateful to Claire and Alex for always making us so welcome at Huntington.

6 December: Christmas Carol Service
Well done to all the pupils and staff on the wonderful Carol Service held in St. Brigid’s Church on 6th December. The children told the story of the Nativity through readings, music, song and drama. The packed Church supported the children in their efforts by their respectful presence and attention. The standard of the singing and music was excellent. The Nativity story was dramatized by the children who will receive their First Holy Communion in 2017 and they gave a wonderful performance. Every pupil in the school participated and they and their teachers can be very proud of their hard work. It was a heart-warming reminder to all of us of the true spirit of Christmas. Thank you to all who donated to Bóthar and to the Parents Council members who guarded the bucket in the Church porch for us!!
